How Does Acupuncture Work?

How Does Acupuncture Work?
I first experienced acupuncture when I was living in South Korea. I grew up in a family of doctors and nurses and had no experiences with Eastern or any other “alternative” medicine until I was in my mid-twenties. My brother-in-law is a Korean Medicine Doctor in South Korea, and he offered to treat me for free. When I was first treated by him, I was AMAZED at what he told me after only feeling my pulse for a minute. He started telling me things about myself that I certainly did not tell him. He didn’t even do my treatment yet, and I was already hooked! I had struggled with digestive issues and stomach pain for years, but I had gotten so used to living with the pain and discomfort that I forgot it was even there! After my first treatment, I could actually suck in my stomach without feeling that familiar soreness. What was the magic??

How does acupuncture work?

The truth is, it’s not magic, but a systematic practice of medicine that has been refined over hundreds of years. It’s a system of meridians corresponding with the organs in our body. Each organ has its own energy, or qi (pronounced “chee”), blood, and balance of yin and yang. Licensed acupuncturists and many Naturopathic physicians are trained to notice patterns in your pulse, tongue, and physical presentations that give them a picture of the state of the energy of various organs in your body. Regular acupuncture treatments, along with Chinese herbs, can address various imbalances/deficiencies in various organs which can resolve multiple issues from insomnia, to infertility, to pain management, and even weight loss!

Fast forward, I am now a professional, licensed and trained Acupuncturist in Scottsdale, Arizona, and highly recommend this ancient treatment to restore balance to your physical and mental health, without pharmaceuticals. I have helped my patients overcome: pain, stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia, PMS, infertility, asthma, allergies, headaches, migraines and trauma.
